The coronavirus is disrupting food supply chains because farmers and laborers cannot work or travel, transportation delays are causing shortages, and in the United States, for example, meat processing plants have been forced to close.

Not only are these breaks in the supply chain affecting the availability of food, but also its affordability. Millions who already struggled to support themselves and their families have been struck by economic hardship caused by lockdowns around the globe.

Millions people will be pushed into extreme poverty this year owing to the pandemic, but the long-term effects will be even worse, as poor nutrition in childhood causes lifelong suffering. Already, one in five children around the world are stunted in their growth by the age of five, and millions more are likely to suffer the same fate if poverty rates soar.

Throughout history, mankind has waged a constant war with starvation. From the time of the first hunter-gatherers, through the early cultivation of crops and all the way to our modern, industrialized farming techniques, we humans have been working to ensure that we can survive the next winter, when no crops are growing and animals hide in their burrows. To our ancestors, this was a great challenge, unlike today. For that reason, the idea of being a “prepper” would seem strange, as they all lived a prepping lifestyle.

Yet somehow, modern western culture has distanced itself from the reality of needing to grow food. As the number of farmers in our midst keeps dwindling and industrialized farming takes over, fewer and fewer people have any idea of where their food comes from. The idea that the grocery store produces meat and vegetables rather than farmers and ranchers growing it, might make for a good joke, but the ignorance behind it is outright frightening.

The United States is the number one food producing nation in the world; yet we do it with a very small percentage of our overall population. Farming, fishing, forestry and related activities account for only 1.8% of the overall workforce. Those people not only produce the food that we eat here at home, but much that is exported overseas.

We depend on this small portion of our population, plus the others who work in the food service industry, to keep the rest of us fed. The rest of us don’t even bother thinking about it. After all, there’s always food in the grocery store… lots of food. There always has been and there always will be, right?

The truth is we have never been more disconnected from life, from the world, from the soil, from the trees, and from our own souls.

We are straying away from our roots on a dangerous road from which there will be no turning back. And the good and bad news is that we are the last generation that can truly do something about it.

We no longer know how to live without refrigerators, without cars, without phones or without supermarkets.

What will you do tomorrow if you simply are unable to buy things?

We’re Not Hearing About It

Should there be actual shortages of food, there would be a need for some sort of food rationing. That would be a function of the USDA (US Department of Agriculture), who would be responsible for putting some sorts of controls in place, ensuring that the food which our farmers are producing would be properly allocated, so that everyone’s needs would be met.

What’s scarier than the potential of food shortages in the near future, is that we’re not hearing about it. Nor does it seem that the USDA is hearing anything about it. Nothing is being done to prepare for potential shortages, because the people who should be dealing with that don’t have any idea of what is going on. They seem to be kept in the dark and nobody seems to know who is hiding that news.

This means that when the food shortages begin to manifest, nobody is going to be ready for it. Government bureaucrats and major producers up and down the line will be caught with a sudden need to do something, but without the time to plan out what should be done.

Can The Food Run Short?

There are places in the world today where food shortages are the norm. I’ve had church pastors from other countries in my home, who have told me about the people they bury, even children, because they’ve starved to death. This is a very real problem in a number of different countries. It’s not something made up by non-profit organizations, to try and get your money.

Are we going to run into that problem here in the USA? We could, but we probably won’t. As a country, we produce something like 180 billion tons of food per year. Of that, about a third actually goes to waste, not ending up on anyone’s dining room table.

The reason for this waste, is that, as a country, we are very focused on the appearance of our food. That began just after the time of World War II, coinciding with electric refrigerators becoming commonplace. Even with their faults, those early electric refrigerators were so much more efficient than iceboxes, that it made a difference in how our food looked, especially produce. No longer did homemakers have to concern themselves with brown spots on produce; it would be consumed before that happened.

With that being the case, homemakers became more selective in their purchases, passing over imperfect produce, in favor of better looking specimens. Noticing this, grocers stopped putting less than perfect produce on the shelves, opting to throw it away and make their selection look better. This then worked its way back to the farm, so that now there’s a lot of food which goes from the farm right to the landfill, rather than trucking it to the store.

Please note that there is nothing wrong with all this food that gets thrown away. In most cases, the flaws are superficial, mere cosmetic blemishes. I’m not talking about food that has spoiled, just food that doesn’t’ look so good.

With so much food that doesn’t ever get eaten, our farms would have to suffer severe shortages, before it became a shortage in the grocery store. The ones who would most likely be affected by such shortages would be our overseas customers, who buy some $160 billion worth of American food per year.

When Food Runs Short

This isn’t to say that it would be impossible for there to be serious food shortages in our country. The amount of food our farmers produce annually is dependent on a lot of separate factors. Should just one of those factors fall short, we might suddenly find ourselves in the position where productivity on the farms is drastically reduced.

There are a number of things I can think of, off hand, which could bring that about, ranging from severe weather to government regulation. Some of these regulations are being pushed for in Washington, without anyone taking into account the ultimate effect of those regulations.

Should the food supply begin to run short, we would first see it as a rise in prices at the store. The only effect that would have on most of us is a more costly grocery bill. We’d pay it and complain, tightening our belts elsewhere in our budgets, so that we could buy the same as we’ve always done.

But there would be those who couldn’t afford to spend more on their grocery bills; those people would suffer. Oh, they wouldn’t starve, but they would need to change their eating habits, so that they didn’t. More than anything, rather than buying fresh, they would have to settle for less favorable choices, perhaps even eating the food that is currently being thrown away.

It Could All Stop Tomorrow

While it would take a lot to shut down our farms or lower the amount they produce to levels where we would see shortages, there is one thing that could shut down food supplies in a day. That’s any sort of damage to our nation’s trucking industry.

The food production and food service industries depend on trucking, more so than many other industries. Without our nation’s trucking industry taking food from the farm to the various processing facilities and then from those to the stores, the supermarket shelves would empty in a day.

As I sit here writing this, that’s happening in Wyoming. Severe winter weather has made the roads all but impassible, with over 200 miles of Interstate 80 closed down. This is making it difficult for truckers to make their deliveries, which in turn has led to empty shelves in the stores. Should this situation last for more than a few days, things could get serious for the inhabitants of that state.

The same could happen nationwide, should the electrical grid go down or some sort of nationwide quarantine be put in place due to pandemic. It wouldn’t matter what farmers could produce then, as it would only be available to people living locally. Those who lived in states where there wasn’t any food grown or even in cities that were far from the farms and processing plants, had better have their pantries stocked, or they’ll find themselves on very short rations.

The year 2020 has been declared by many to be “the worst year in history.” But that name has been given to other years before.

In 2018, a medieval scholar named Michael McCormick declared the year 536 AD as the worst in history. During that year, much of the world went dark, possibly due to a volcanic eruption. This caused a fall in the temperature, crops to fail and many to die.

But then there’s 1349, when the Black Death wiped out half of Europe. Other years had their own problems.

Whether history will decide that 2020 was worse than 536 or 1349 is something that none of us will see. Nevertheless, it could easily be the worst one in our lifetimes. But that too is yet to be seen. We don’t know what the future might hold.

There are many who are acting like they think the world will change at the stroke of midnight on December 31^st, doing away with all the problems and replacing this bad year with a good one. I don’t see anything to tell me that things will suddenly get better, just like they didn’t in 537 or 1350.

If anything, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if they actually got worse. I have nothing to back that up, just a gut feeling. But I can’t ignore it.

Having that gut feeling, I’ve looked around, searching out the most likely crisis situations to confront us in the coming year.

Another Surge of COVID-19

It’s only appropriate to start out with the pandemic that has defined 2020. For months, I’ve been hearing people make statements that sound like they believe that COVID will disappear on January 1^st. Yet, medical experts are already warning us that we will need to keep all precautions in place until well into 2022. The idea that this disease will just disappear is unrealistic, to say the least.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw another massive surge in people becoming infected with COVID-19 in the coming year. First of all, there will be a surge in January, caused by people getting together for Christmas. Whole families will come down with the disease, as it spreads through the family, having been brought to the party by one family member.

That’s not the surge I’m concerned about though. The one I’m seeing is the one that will come when everyone suddenly decides that we no longer need to wear masks and practice social distancing.

Whether that happens because officials decide that it’s safe to lift those restrictions or because of people just plain getting fed up with the restrictions on their lives, it’s going to come. When it does, we’ll see another massive surge.

We’ve already seen this happen in last summer’s surge. Once lockdown restrictions were lifted, many people took that to mean they could go back to life as normal, even though officials were warning against that. They didn’t listen and many got the disease.

Another Pandemic on the Heels of COVID

I can’t help, but feel that COVID-19 has been a dress rehearsal for something bigger that’s coming; a much worse pandemic, which is going to sweep the globe.

As with many pandemics, there’s a good chance that this one is going to come out of China, just like COVID-19 did and like so many other diseases have since the Black Plague.

There are those who are saying that COVID was actually an act of biological warfare on the Chinese government’s part. The jury is still out on that. But either way, the communist government definitely took advantage of it.

Considering that the government lab it supposedly escaped from was studying viruses from bats, and that it is still studying a couple of other viruses from bats, it’s natural to wonder how many other such labs the Chinese have and how many viruses they are studying.

If, in fact, the Chinese government released the Coronavirus on the world intentionally, it’s perfectly reasonable to assume they’ve got something bigger waiting in the wings. It’s just a question of how soon it will take center stage.

Civil Unrest

The other big thing that 2020 was known for was civil unrest. Ever since George Floyd was killed in May, we’ve seen protests and riots breaking out across the country.

While peaceful protest is part of the American culture, a right guaranteed to us by the First Amendment, rioting is criminal activity. In many cases, it appears that the rioting was sparked by infiltrators into what started out to be peaceful protest.

Some might say that the riots were politically motivated and that the results of the elections could either cause an increase in the rioting or an end to it.

But that would assume that the rioting was politically motivated, with those rioting being against some government policy or other.

That just isn’t the case, while the riots have been hidden under the mantle of the Black Lives Matter protests, they were not actually started by those protesting police killings. Rather, it seems they were started by ANTIFA, which is after anarchy.

Remember CHOP or CHAZ? That was all about kicking out the local government. It was immaterial who was in authority; they just wanted to get rid of that authority. This is the same group which is affiliated with all the other rioting.

Gun and Ammunition Shortages

As we go into the end of the year, we’re facing shortages of guns and ammo across the nation. This started out because of the rioting and has continued through today.

The ammo shortages in the stores are even worse than they were during Obama’s presidency and online prices for ammo have skyrocketed.

With the ongoing risk of civil unrest, there is no end to the surge in gun and ammunition sales in sight. We can not only expect them to continue, but possibly even increase, as people who might be a little bit behind in getting on board this particular train climb on.

Chances are, the shortages of ammo will continue considerably longer than the shortage of firearms, as people go to the range to practice using their new purchases.

If you aren’t already doing so, I’d recommend stockpiling whatever you can and considering loading your own ammo. Although, I will have to say that there’s a shortage of reloading supplies too.

Other Shortages

The panic associated with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and the rumors of coming lockdowns caused a massive amount of panic buying in the stores, leading to shortages. As time went on, those shortages increased, due to things like workers in meat packing plants coming down with the disease.

It took months for the stores to reach normal stocking levels again. But once there was talk about a second lockdown, the shortages started up again.

With another surge in COVID already happening, we’re looking at the possibility of another nationwide lockdown. That’s already happening in some states.

While the president doesn’t have the authority, constitutionally speaking, to make that happen, whoever is president can influence national opinion and put pressure on the governors of the several states to do so. But the threat of him doing such a thing will probably cause shortages once again.

Our Rights Under Attack

The government has been in all out war against our Constitutional rights for years, specifically the first, second and fourth amendments. One of the greatest dangers we face today, is that of either political party controlling both houses of Congress and the Presidency.

Were that to happen, they could turn a number of that party’s hobby horses into law, specifically, limiting our religious freedom, turning “free speech” into “hate speech” whenever it doesn’t agree with their agenda and limiting our rights to own firearms.

A large part of what makes America unique is the Bill of Rights. Many countries have copied our Constitution; but rarely do they copy our Bill of Rights… at least, not all of it.

But it is those 10 Amendments to the Constitution which give us liberty, not the Constitution itself.

Another part of this is the way that the modern version of political correctness puts the rights of some people above those of others.

Specifically, putting the rights of minority groups above what is mainstream in “flyover country.” Muslim rights trump Christian rights. Transgender rights trump women’s rights. And of course, the rights of any progressive trump those of any conservative.

Return of Political Correctness

Perhaps one of the biggest changes brought about by Donald Trump’s presidency was to destroy the idea of political correctness, even though that wasn’t part of his job. Not only was he politically incorrect, but he was unashamed about it, firing back at those who took shots at him. Some said that wasn’t presidential, but it was Trump.

Yet the media hasn’t slowed down any in their push for political correctness, along with their allies in Hollywood. That has given birth to the “cancel culture” of today, where people’s lives and careers are being ruined by something they did 20 or 30 years ago, even though it was acceptable back then.

Natural Disasters

2020 was a horrible year for hurricanes and other natural disasters.

While I don’t believe that those were caused by “global warming” by whatever name they are using today, I do see them as coming and going in cycles.

Based on that, it would be normal to expect 2021 to be a year of few natural disasters, because 2020 was so bad.

But I don’t believe that will happen. If anything, I expect 2021 to be a worse year for natural disasters than 2020 has been. It won’t be because of climate change, but rather because the world is trending in that direction.

Iran and North Korea Turning Militant

With Biden taking over from Trump in the White House, a number of things will happen on the world stage. For example, Biden has already declared that he will rejoin the Paris Climate Accords, which Trump pulled us out of. There’s also talk from his transition team about rejoining Obama’s agreement with Iran.

If we look back, both Iran and North Korea were doing a lot of saber rattling during past years. Why that happened is up for debate. But what’s not up for debate is that they both quieted down during the last four years. Bad actors like that, similar to the neighborhood gang, only understand strength. The only one who gets them to behave is one who convinced them that they could beat them with one hand tied behind their back.

But they’ve been quiet all too long, considering who they are. One of the things we typically see on the world stage is these sorts of countries testing our president, whoever they might be. Whether we end up with Biden or Trump in the White House, we can expect that once again. They might see Biden as an opportunity or might think that all the legal battles show that Trump’s position has been weakened.

Whichever it is, they’ll be looking for an opportunity that they can use to their advantage. The question will become, how effectively are we able to counter their actions.

Authoritarian-minded officials have found opportunity in public health fears.

In a year of extraordinary and often terrible actions taken in response to COVID-19, yet another international civil society group warns that governments are leveraging the pandemic to tighten controls over their subjects. Ominously, it’s not the first such warning and comes as even traditionally liberal democratic countries step up surveillance of dissidents and crack down on public opposition.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a dire impact on civic freedoms globally,” Civicus, a South Africa-based group that promotes civil society and freedom of association, reported last week. “Our research shows that governments … are using the pandemic as an opportunity to introduce or implement additional restrictions on civic freedoms.”

The United States drops in status from “narrowed” to “obstructed” for “restrictive laws, the excessive use of force against protesters, and an increasingly hostile environment for the press.” The Civicus rating emphasizes militarized tactics and mass arrests in response to the Black Lives Matter protests that erupted this year. While those protests aren’t explicitly linked to the pandemic, they were likely exacerbated by the disruptions and economic pain caused by lockdowns that brought simmering preexisting tensions to a boil.

Unfortunately, Civicus’s ratings criteria seem anecdote-driven and rather arbitrary. While the U.S. is (rightfully) dinged for sometimes heavy-handed treatment of protesters (while police in other locations seemingly surrendered the streets to favored political factions), other countries get a relative pass for cracking down on public expression that was specifically targeted at pandemic responses.

Australia, for example, is classified as “narrowed”—a better ranking than the U.S.—even as authorities arrest people for merely planning to protest against pandemic-related lockdowns. The country is also moving to centralize surveillance of travelers in the name of public health and to ease domestic monitoring of electronic communications.

“Journalists in France have been obstructed in doing their jobs through intimidation and detention while covering protests,” observes Civicus, which ranks the country as “narrowed.”

Last Friday, 142 people were arrested in Paris during demonstrations against a law that would restrict photographing police officers during such events as protests against lockdowns.

Germany‘s arrests of anti-lockdown protesters are acknowledged even as the country gets an “open” rating.

Unmentioned is Germany’s surveillance of opponents to restrictive anti-pandemic measures on the grounds that they have been “infiltrated by extremists.” The “move is effectively a public warning to sympathizers and leaders of the group—which officials described as the ‘epicenter’ of Germany’s coronavirus protests—but it falls short of banning the movement,” notes The Washington Post.

The listing for Israel—ranked as “obstructed”—focuses on the treatment of Palestinians. That’s certainly an important issue. Still, as Civicus emphasizes governments’ exploitation of health concerns to justify expanded authority, it’s worth mentioning that the Shin Bet, the country’s internal security force, presented bogus information to gain authorization to monitor citizens for coronavirus. “In other words, the committee voted and reaffirmed surveillance on Israeli citizens by the Shin Bet based on partial or even misleading data,” according to Haaretz.

That said, the Civicus warning is timely, and the organization’s concerns are shared by others.

“The first global pandemic of the digital age has accelerated the international adoption of surveillance and public security technologies, normalising new forms of widespread, overt state surveillance,” warned Kelsey Munro and Danielle Cave of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute’s Cyber Policy Centre last month.

“Numerous governments have used the COVID-pandemic to repress expression in violation of their obligations under human rights law,” United Nations Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression David Kaye noted in July.

“For authoritarian-minded leaders, the coronavirus crisis is offering a convenient pretext to silence critics and consolidate power,” Human Rights Watch warned back in April.

There’s widespread agreement, then, that government officials around the world are exploiting the pandemic to expand their power and to suppress opposition. That’s the case not only among the usual suspects where authorities don’t pretend to take elections and civil liberties seriously, but also in countries that are traditionally considered “free.”

It’s wildly optimistic to expect that newly acquired surveillance tools and enforcement powers will simply evaporate once COVID-19 is sent on its way. The post-pandemic new normal is almost certain to be more authoritarian than what went before.

Several organizations make attempts at rating freedom around the world, such as the Press Freedom Index published by Reporters Without Borders and the Heritage Foundation’s Index of Economic Freedom. The more holistic assessments—such as those by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch—tend toward narrative summaries rather than comparative rankings. That may well reflect the difficulty (seen in the Civicus rankings) in fairly gathering and weighting governments’ treatment of their citizens across a multitude of categories.

For my money, the best effort to date that lets us compare countries and see the extent to which we’re becoming more or less free is the Human Freedom Index published by organizations including the Cato Institute, Canada’s Fraser Institute, and Germany’s Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom. Last published in 2019, that “global measurement of personal, civil, and economic freedom” uses 76 indicators including rule of law, freedom of movement, freedom of expression, and freedom to trade.

That’s a lot of ground to cover, and the 2019 publication relied on 2017 information—”the most recent year for which sufficient data are available”—to arrive at its rankings. Given that 2020 still has several weeks in which to throw fresh hell our way, we likely have to wait a couple of years to discover whether countries have held their rankings (the U.S. came in at 15) and what those rankings mean in a changing world.

But with Civicus only the latest organization to point out that “the COVID-19 pandemic has had a dire impact on civic freedoms,” we don’t need detailed rankings to know that authoritarian-minded government officials have found opportunity in public health fears.

For a quick and easy way to verify there is no deadly pandemic simply view the year-on-year annual excess mortality rates for various countries. Z-Scores By Country

Graphs of the weekly z-score at the national level in the EuroMOMO participating countries from week 1, 2015 until today (week 51 in the calendar year). The graphs are arranged to show the z scores. What is a z-score?

(Z-scores are used to standardize series and enable comparison mortality pattern between different populations or between different time periods).

Taken separately and as a whole, these graphs show that Europe is NOT now going through a “deadly pandemic.”

What anyone can see, if they scroll through the graphs from across the years – moving from left to right – is that we are currently seeing a very normal death rate pattern matching other years.

Many countries did see a somewhat higher peak in deaths in the Spring of 2020, but since then death rates across Europe are back in line with the average, and therefore there is no medical emergency or desperate shortage of hospital beds. Anyone claiming otherwise is either an ignorant fool or a liar.

Now let’s take a look at the U.S. where we can see that there is nothing remarkable about the death rate there, either. The graph below shows that 2020 may turn out the have a LOWER mortality rate than many other recent years:

For the first time in the history of vaccination, the so-called last generation mRNA vaccines intervene directly in the genetic material of the patient and therefore alter the individual genetic material, which represents the genetic manipulation, something that was already forbidden and until then considered criminal.

This intervention can be compared to genetically manipulated food, which is also highly controversial. Even if the media and politicians currently trivialize the problem and even stupidly call for a new type of vaccine to return to normality, this vaccination is problematic in terms of health, morality and ethics, and also in terms of genetic damage that, unlike the damage caused by previous vaccines, will be irreversible and irreparable.

Dear patients, after an unprecedented mRNA vaccine, you will no longer be able to treat the vaccine symptoms in a complementary way. They will have to live with the consequences, because they can no longer be cured simply by removing toxins from the human body, just as a person with a genetic defect like Down syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome, Turner syndrome, genetic cardiac arrest, hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, Rett syndrome, etc.), because the genetic defect is forever!

This means clearly: if a vaccination symptom develops after an mRNA vaccination, neither I nor any other therapist can help you, because the damage caused by the vaccination will be genetically irreversible. In my opinion, these new vaccines represent a crime against humanity that has never been committed in such a big way in history. As Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg, an experienced doctor, said: In fact, this “promising vaccine” for the vast majority of people should be FORBIDDEN, because it is genetic manipulation! ”

The vaccine, developed and endorsed by Anthony Fauci and funded by Bill Gates, uses experimental mRNA technology. Three of the 15 human guinea pigs (20%) experienced a “serious adverse event”.

Stoking fear and ignorance, various methods have been intensified, not the least of which is monopolization of perception through a 24-hour news cycle, censoring dissenting views and creating a barren environment by prolonging or returning to isolation, closed schools, closed religious institutions, limiting exposure to fresh air and insisting that people stay away from their own families. All of this is being advanced on a claim of scientific and medical authority.

We cannot examine and analyze the Covid-19 vaccine without a knowledge of the climate in which it is being produced. In his 2013 series The Time and What Must Be Done, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan provided extensive, documented proof that the policy of the United States Government is to rid the Earth of the indigenous people. The overarching goal is to cull the population of our planet by two to three billion. This includes reducing the United States population by 150 million. Why? Dr. Ameet Sarpatwari of the Center for Bioethics at Harvard Medical School called the action “an extreme departure from the norms.”

Kennedy, Jr. offered this fact: “Vaccines are zero liability…this is an industry that went to Congress in 1996. (They) had a vaccine at that time that was causing brain injury in 1 out of 300 people … they said to Congress, ‘we cannot make vaccines safe, they are unavoidably unsafe … the only reason we continue to make vaccines is if you give us a complete blanket immunity from liability.’ Congress gave it to them. Today, if you have a product and it injures you, no matter how negligent the company was, no matter how sloppy the protocols, no matter how toxic the ingredients, no matter now grievous your injury, you cannot sue that company; that company has no incentive to make that product safe. That should be troubling to any of us who are part of the legal system saying ‘we are going to force people to take this intervention.’”

Surgery was performed on Black women with no anesthesia by J. Marion Sims who is called the “Father of Gynecology.” The desire to escape slavery was designated a mental disorder.

Until it is proven otherwise, we must presume our people mean us no harm. It is more likely that the education and training they received make them believe in vaccines and believe this vaccine will benefit them and us. They believe they are in decision-making roles. But are they on the boards or in the laboratories at Pfizer and Moderna? Are they on the boards at Johnson & Johnson, the company that in October settled a class action lawsuit for $100 million because they knowingly sold talcum powder that caused ovarian cancer? Our professionals must wake up to the virulent racism which led to the pre-conditions that make us most likely to die from Covid-19. They must acknowledge that racism itself is a factor in many Covid-19 deaths just by the way we are handled in hospitals.

The mechanical mind connected to the money machine of extraction has created the illusion of humans as separate from nature, and nature as dead, inert raw material to be exploited. But, in fact, we are part of the biome. And we are part of the virome. The biome and the virome are us. When we wage war on the biodiversity of our forests, our farms, and in our guts, we wage war on ourselves.

The health emergency of the coronavirus is inseparable from the health emergency of extinction, the health emergency of biodiversity loss, and the health emergency of the climate crisis. All of these emergencies are rooted in a mechanistic, militaristic, anthropocentric worldview that considers humans separate from—and superior to—other beings. Beings we can own, manipulate, and control. All of these emergencies are rooted in an economic model based on the illusion of limitless growth and limitless greed, which violate planetary boundaries, and destroy the integrity of ecosystems and individual species.

The truth is we have never been more disconnected from life, from the world, from the soil, from the trees, and from our own souls.

We are straying away from our roots on a dangerous road from which there will be no turning back. And the good and bad news is that we are the last generation that can truly do something about it.

We no longer know how to live without refrigerators, without cars, without phones or without supermarkets.

What will you do tomorrow if you simply are unable to buy things?

New diseases arise because a globalized, industrialized, inefficient agriculture invades habitats, destroys ecosystems, and manipulates animals, plants, and other organisms with no respect for their integrity or their health. We are linked worldwide through the spread of diseases like the coronavirus because we have invaded the homes of other species, manipulated plants and animals for commercial profits and greed, and cultivated monocultures. As we clear-cut forests, as we turn farms into industrial monocultures that produce toxic, nutritionally empty commodities, as our diets become degraded through industrial processing with synthetic chemicals and genetic engineering, and as we perpetuate the illusion that earth and life are raw materials to be exploited for profits, we are indeed connecting. But instead of connecting on a continuum of health by protecting biodiversity, integrity, and self-organization of all living beings, including humans, we are connected through disease.

According to the International Labour Organization, ‘1.6 billion informal economy workers (representing the most vulnerable in the labour market), out of a worldwide total of two billion and a global workforce of 3.3 billion, have suffered massive damage to their capacity to earn a living. This is due to lockdown measures and/or because they work in the hardest-hit sectors.’ According to the World Food Programme, a quarter of a billion additional people will be pushed to hunger and 300,000 could die every day. These, too, are pandemics that are killing people. Killing cannot be a prescription for saving lives.

Health is about life and living systems. There is no ‘life’ in the paradigm of health that Bill Gates and his ilk are promoting and imposing on the entire world. Gates has created global alliances to impose top-down analysis and prescriptions for health problems. He gives money to define the problems, and then he uses his influence and money to impose the solutions. And in the process, he gets richer. His ‘funding’ results in an erasure of democracy and biodiversity, of nature and culture. His ‘philanthropy’ is not just philanthrocapitalism. It is philanthroimperialism.

The coronavirus pandemic and lockdown have revealed even more clearly how we are being reduced to objects to be controlled, with our bodies and minds as the new colonies to be invaded. Empires create colonies, colonies enclose the commons of the indigenous living communities and turn them into sources of raw material to be extracted for profits. This linear, extractive logic is unable to see the intimate relations that sustain life in the natural world. It is blind to diversity, cycles of renewal, values of giving and sharing, and the power and potential of self-organising and mutuality. It is blind to the waste it creates and to the violence it unleashes. The extended coronavirus lockdown has been a lab experiment for a future without humanity.

On March 26, 2020, at a peak of the coronavirus pandemic and in the midst of the lockdown, Microsoft was granted a patent by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Patent WO 060606 declares that ‘Human Body Activity associated with a task provided to a user may be used in a mining process of a cryptocurrency system….’

The ‘body activity’ that Microsoft wants to mine includes radiation emitted from the human body, brain activities, body fluid flow, blood flow, organ activity, body movement such as eye movement, facial movement, and muscle movement, as well as any other activities that can be sensed and represented by images, waves, signals, texts, numbers, degrees, or any other information or data.

The patent is an intellectual property claim over our bodies and minds. In colonialism, colonisers assign themselves the right to take the land and resources of indigenous people, extinguish their cultures and sovereignty, and in extreme cases exterminate them. Patent WO 060606 is a declaration by Microsoft that our bodies and minds are its new colonies. We are mines of ‘raw material’—the data extracted from our bodies. Rather than sovereign, spiritual, conscious, intelligent beings making decisions and choices with wisdom and ethical values about the impacts of our actions on the natural and social world of which we are a part, and to which we are inextricably related, we are ‘users.’ A ‘user’ is a consumer without choice in the digital empire.

But that’s not the totality of Gates’ vision. In fact, it is even more sinister—to colonise the minds, bodies, and spirits of our children before they even have the opportunity to understand what freedom and sovereignty look and feel like, beginning with the most vulnerable.

In May 2020, Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York announced a partnership with the Gates Foundation to ‘reinvent education.’ Cuomo called Gates a visionary and argued that the pandemic has created ‘a moment in history when we can actually incorporate and advance [Gates’] ideas…all these buildings, all these physical classrooms—why with all the technology you have?’

In fact, Gates has been trying to dismantle the public education system of the United States for two decades. For him students are mines for data. That is why the indicators he promotes are attendance, college enrollment, and scores on a math and reading test, because these can be easily quantified and mined. In reimagining education, children will be monitored through surveillance systems to check if they are attentive while they are forced to take classes remotely, alone at home. The dystopia is one where children never return to schools, do not have a chance to play, do not have friends. It is a world without society, without relationships, without love and friendship.

As I look to the future in a world of Gates and Tech Barons, I see a humanity that is further polarized into large numbers of ‘throw away’ people who have no place in the new Empire. Those who are included in the new Empire will be little more than digital slaves.

Or, we can resist. We can seed another future, deepen our democracies, reclaim our commons, regenerate the earth as living members of a One Earth Family, rich in our diversity and freedom, one in our unity and interconnectedness. It is a healthier future. It is one we must fight for. It is one we must claim.

We stand at a precipice of extinction. Will we allow our humanity as living, conscious, intelligent, autonomous beings to be extinguished by a greed machine that does not know limits and is unable to put a break on its colonisation and destruction? Or will we stop the machine and defend our humanity, freedom, and autonomy to protect life on earth?

Living out of a vehicle is never an ideal circumstance. In a perfect world, you would purchase a truck, SUV, or a van, which you will modify and customize to maximize the comfort and use of space. We do not live in a perfect world, and whichever vehicle you are currently driving may end up being your home on wheels. So what can you do to prepare your current car in the unfortunate event that you may be forced to call it “home”?

There are a lot of articles written about living out of a car. This one aims to provide a few tips and things to think of that may not have crossed your mind.

Preparation

Number one on your to-do list is to keep your car well maintained and properly insured. It is a good idea to have a basic tool kit on hand, plus a set of spare fuses, a tire repair kit, at least one replacement bulb for each bulb type on your car, a replacement fan belt, and spare oil and air filter.

If you have the available space, carrying a collection of fluids for your car is also not a bad idea.

Gather up all the gear you figure you’ll need to live out of your car, and then try it for a night or two. This will show you what you’ve forgotten and what you do not need, before you need to do it for real. Depending on your skill level and mindset, your bug-out bag might be all that you require to live out of your car.

I like to think of it as setting up a car for camping, but on a more permanent basis.

Your Number One Priority

Safety must be your number one priority. Multiple hazards surround living in a car and you need to be ready for them.

Carbon Monoxide is a concern whenever you sleep in an enclosed space, especially if you leave the engine idling. There are battery-operated CO detectors on the market and some that are specifically designed for vehicles. If you plan on living in a car for any length of time, a CO detector is indispensable.

Since your car is now your home, you should keep all of your valuables, important documents, a change of clothes, toiletries, water, food, etc. in a backpack in case your car gets destroyed or stolen or you need to suddenly abandon it. This bag should be considered your ‘bailout bag’ and when you are not in the vehicle, it should be on your person and never left unattended.

Lastly, you are vulnerable when sleeping in a car in an urban environment, and protecting yourself is critical. First and foremost, it is always best practice to disengage from a threat as your first line of defense. Remember that you are driving a two-tonne vehicle and escape is probably going to always be your best course of action.

Second, remember that even though your car is now your home it is, after all, only ‘stuff’ and not worth grievous bodily harm or death in defending.

When given the choice between your life and your car choose the one where you keep breathing.

All this being said, you may be forced to defend your life, and in that case, you must choose methods that are legal in your area and that you have the training and temperament to execute effectively.

Storage

Open every door and the trunk of your car. Check each door for storage compartments, inspect where the spare tire is, glove box, center console, and the seat pockets. Once you’ve done this, plan out how you are going to outfit your car. Take into consideration how many people may be living with you as well.

Keep items that you’ll need frequent access to in places like seatbacks and the pockets in the doors. Each person’s bailout bag should be compact enough to fit on the floor between their legs.

The trunk will be the primary storage area and you need to think about maximizing organization. Purchase containers with tight-fitting lids, that can be stacked one on top of the other. Try to find totes and containers that fit tight together to minimize the dead space between and around them.

Label these containers with their contents so you can quickly find what you are looking for. Also keep similar items or items that serve similar purposes (cooking, cleaning, entertainment, sanitation, clothing, etc.) in the same containers.

The area where the spare tire is often has a significant amount of room that you can store items that you may not frequently need ready access to. This is a good spot for tool kits and spare parts.

Keeping It Comfortable

Unless you have a truck or van, you’re going to find that sleeping in a car is not the lap of luxury. A small backpacking tent and air mattress will make your slumber far more comfortable where it is legal to pitch a tent.

Solar-powered fans that fit into the window of a vehicle are available. They will remove the hot air and hopefully bring in the cool air. Using sunshades on the windows will also help to keep it cool inside the car.

Try to park in shaded areas whenever it is possible. Otherwise, carry a tarp or two and some paracord and bungee cords to rig up some improvised shade when parked, or to create an outdoor space covered from the rain.

Number One for Survival

We need water to survive and it is important to have some on hand in your vehicle as well.

Fortunately, water is not hard to come by in urban environments, so keeping a 5-gallon jug with a spout in your trunk will be sufficient, provided you have free access to water.

Having a few reusable water bottles for each of the people living with you in the car is also a good idea. Use one bottle for water and the other for mixing sports drinks, juices, protein shakes, etc.

Cooking and Sanitation

You can not eat fast food for every meal, so you are going to have to do some cooking. A simple two-burner camp stove is portable enough for most vehicles and gives you the ability to cook a lot of meals. It is fairly simple to find pots and pans that nest together in your local camping supply store, as well as bowls that collapse flat, and cutlery.

Acquiring cookware that is designed for camping means that it will be lightweight and compact.

Sanitation is going to be an issue. In a pinch, you can use your camp stove to heat some water and use soap and a washcloth to give yourself a sponge bath. This is not a permanent solution though, so you are going to have to think about where the most accessible showers and washrooms are in your area.

Remember that COVID-19 has shut down or put restrictions on places like community centers and gyms, where one would normally be able to shower. You can buy camp showers which are water bags with showerheads attached, or you can wash in rivers or lakes. Another option is to lean on your social network to find some friends or family that will allow you to use their washrooms to clean up.

Going to the bathroom at night is also an issue that you need to consider when sleeping in an urban environment. Parking outside a 24-hour Walmart or other retailers that have washrooms open to the public is one way to solve this issue. Failing this, an empty gallon jug is another option to store liquid waste, make sure to clearly label it and secure the lid tightly.

Navigation

GPS is omnipresent in 2020 and most of us have used either the onboard vehicle GPS or one of the handheld units. Every smartphone has GPS inside of it and Google Maps is amazing at getting you where you need to go.

But you need to have some paper maps and a compass in your center console or glove box.

More importantly, you need to learn how to read and orient a paper map. While this seems like an archaic method of navigation, having a paper map or a map book helps you to understand how the different streets and neighborhoods relate to each other. After you’ve used a paper map for awhile, your ability to get around the city will dramatically improve.

I hail from a generation before smartphones and remember how a glance at a map book would have me navigating around traffic problems. With a little practice, you can become better at getting around a city or finding an address than Google could ever be.

Power

We live in an electronic age and even though you’re going to be living inside of what is effectively a two-tonne generator, you’ll want alternative ways to charge your devices while parked.

Large roll out solar panels can be laid out on the car roof to trickle charge battery packs or devices directly.

If your car is an older model and lacks USB ports for charging, there are power inverters available that plug into your car’s 12V power outlet that can provide hundreds of Watts of power.

Finding public Wi-Fi is also something that you’ll need to do to save on data charges. Some unlikely places to find some unsecured public Wi-Fi is businesses that serve the public, such as medical/dental offices, retail/grocery stores, coffee shops, etc.

Some people love to live out of their cars, but for most of us calling a vehicle “home” is almost always a result of some kind of catastrophe. While driving around with a car that is always ready to be home is not practical, having totes, containers and a bailout bag ready to load up is never a bad thing.
